Little Surfer, Little Girl
Aaaahhhh...summer evenings at the beach. We met up with family at Torrey Pines State Beach for BBQ burgers and smores. Eden and Kai went out surfing with their daddy. Eden actually stood up! My little surfer girl.

Fourth of July
Okay, so life has been pretty crazy for me lately and blogging has not been top priority. I figured it was time to catch up on my postings.
We spent our Fourth of July at Emily and JD's pool at their new place in RB. We had such a fun day. That night we went to Poway High School for their fireworks show. We sat on a blanket on the football field and the fireworks were directly overhead. It was a great show! There was a DJ playing dance music before and after the show and we had a great time running around the field with the kids. We are looking forward to going again next year.
I am so thankful to be an American! I love this country! God bless America!!!

Utah!
The kids and I went on our yearly roadtrip to Utah with Grandma Boles. We spent most of our time in St. George with Natalie and Jed. They always go out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable...thanks guys! We love you!!
We also spent a couple of days in Provo visiting Grandpa Cornwell and Alan and Julie and kids. I also got to see my niece, Ashlee. We went to a car show and hiked in the mountains searching for snow for Eden and Kai. It was so great to be with family!

One of the highlights of the trip was a day spent at Zion National Park. It is God's country! It is a piece of heaven on earth...breathtakingly beautiful! We went on two short hikes and played in the river. My favorite sight was Weeping Rock where water literally seeps out of the cliffs above and rains down on your head. Eden and Kai filled out workbooks and became Junior Rangers-they took it very seriously and we all learned a lot. We had such a wonderful time! Thank you, Grandma Boles for such great memories! We love you!!

Wicked!
Emily treated me to an evening of musical entertainment. I went with her, her best friend Carli, Carli's husband Christian, and her brother Austin to Los Angeles to see the Broadway musical Wicked. It was such a fun evening. Wicked is amazing. It's such a cool story about the wicked witch from The Wizard of Oz and the music is great. It is definitely worth seeing! I've Been Tagged
Okay, Misha...this blog entry is for you. Misha tagged me and I am supposed to write six random things about myself. So here we go...
1. I love paper towels! No, seriously, I love paper towels. Who was the original inventor of these wonderful sheets of cleaning bliss? For the answer to this question go to: http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/papertowel.htm
You are probably asking yourself, "what is so great about a paper towel?". Oh just think of the many uses and of the cleanliness! I love that I can wipe up whatever mess there might be and then I can just toss it in the trash without getting the mess on me or on some other cleaning article that I would then have to add to the dirty laundry. I love that a paper towel works as a placemat to catch crumbs. And who needs napkins when you can have an extra large, extra thick paper towel instead? Thank you Costco for selling such large quantities of these rolls of paper love!
2. I was going to be a marine biologist. One of my very first words as a baby was "fish". I have always been drawn to the ocean. As a young child I asked my dad what job I could do as an adult to work with ocean animals and my dad told me "marine biologist". So I decided on that day that I would grow up and be a marine biologist. When I started college my major was marine biology. I took a marine biology class with a lab, oceanography, and a marine mammals class. I loved everything about those classes. I couldn't get enough of that knowledge and actually enjoyed re-writing my notes. It was the chemistry and math classes along with my marine biology teacher telling me how difficult it is to get a job and be a good parent (away from home a lot) as a marine biologist that caused me to rethink my career plan. I ended up changing my major to human development which I enjoyed a lot. I went to work at Sea World during my college years to get my ocean "fix". I worked at Sea World for eight years in the Education Department where I taught people about the ocean. I got to do some really cool things while working there. It was a great time in my life.
3. I have no sense of direction. The part of the brain that tells you which way is the correct way to go is missing from my brain. I have to write down driving directions and then I have to pay very close attention to visual markers/cues to help me remember the way. It takes me at least three times of going the same way to someone's house to be able to remember it without written directions. If I haven't been to a certain location for quite awhile it is like starting over again in trying to find it. It's not just driving that causes problems for me. Being inside large buildings or walking across campuses for instance can cause me problems too. I have been scared quite a few times in my life thinking I was lost. I just say a little prayer and try to find those visual landmarks to help me find my way.
4. I love performing on stage. I haven't had to opportunity to do this in a long while but I sure love it. As a young girl I loved to sing solos in front of anyone who would sit and listen. I was convinced I was going to be in the musical Annie on broadway. I entered any and every talent show and was a part of every play or roadshow at church. I really have a love of acting. I get it from my mom. She actually wrote a few plays that were performed at church activities.
5. I was a tall flag twirler. Yep, I was a flag girl and captain of the flag team during my 7th and 8th grade school years at Hidden Valley Middle School. It was actually the cool thing to do at that point in time. We were the best in southern California. We won the sweepstakes trophy at every parade and competition we competed in, beating out high school flag teams. I spent hours perfecting my flag-twirling abilities. I learned a lot about self-discipline and teamwork. I can still twirl a pretty mean flag but part of me wishes I had joined the band instead so that all the hours of practice would show through my ability to play a musical instrument. Oh well, I looked cute in my flag girl outfit. hehe
6. I love England. I don't know exactly why but I love everything British. I think it might have started with learning about my family history and about my ancestors who came to America from England and Wales. Then it flourished with my school studies of English literature and Shakespeare. Those were my favorite classes in high school. I loved reading such beautifully written literature and then discussing it in class. I love tea and think tea time should happen daily in America. Everyone would benefit from a little sweet snack and a cup of tea during a break in the afternoon. British men are sexy. It is part accent and part gentleman that does it for me. Christian Bale...need I say more.

No longer a Preschooler
It was a bittersweet day as I watched my little Kai Man graduate from preschool. It is a definite reality check that time is moving quickly. I think it will take all of summer vacation for me to realize that Kai is now in kindergarten. As much as I will miss these preschool years I look forward to the school years ahead of us. I love you, Kai. I'm so very proud of you.

Indi-Ivan Jones
I love the way kids say things. Lately Kai and Eden have been so excited about the new Indiana Jones movie that is coming out. The other night a preview for the movie came on the TV and they started jumping up and down saying "the Indi-IVAN Jones movie!"
This morning when Kai was getting dressed he picked out his Star Wars Tshirt and then told me he wanted to wear his "DARK Vader" underwear because it matches his shirt. Kai has been telling us for awhile that he wants to be "Dark Vader" when he grows up so he can dress up and fight the bad guys. We keep trying to convince him that Darth Vader IS a bad guy.
The other day Kai asked me if cowboys had guns. I told him that most of them do have guns. He then told me that when he grows up he's going to be a cowboy..."but I won't have guns, Mommy. I'll just fight the bad guys like this!" And he proceded to kick and punch the air.
"RootBEARD" is Eden and Kai's favorite soda. And Kai thought he was going to wear a bear costume when he was the "ringBEARer" in Emily's wedding.
Eden was answering questions for her homework. One question asked what the easiest thing was at school and she answered "math". The next question asked what the hardest thing was at school and she answered "the walls".
One of the funniest things Eden said when she was younger happened when she and Kai were in the bath together. She was three years old and Kai was about one year old. She pointed to Kai's bottom and said, "that's Kai's bottom". I told her she was right. Then she pointed to the front of him and said, "and that's Kai's...what is that called, Mommy?" I told her that was Kai's penis. She then said really loud, "Oh, PENIS! That's Spanish!!". She watched a lot of Dora the Explorer at that time in her life.
As my kids get older I feel torn between correcting their language and letting them continue to say things their own cute way. I keep a journal for each of my kids where I write down all the cute things they say so I'll always remember.
On the eve of Mother's Day I feel so thankful for the blessings of motherhood. I love being a mom. It is my greatest accomplishment in this life. I love Eden, Kai, and Ezekiel more than words can express. Thank you, Heavenly Father for trusting me with these three beautiful children of God.
